Traffic stops on Highway 101 near Paso Robles due to power lines in the road

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - Traffic was diverted between Paso Robles and San Miguel in San Luis Obispo County late Wednesday morning due to power lines in the roadway of Highway 101.

The power lines fell down across both lanes of the highway near Wellsona Road.

California Highway Patrol was at the scene and said a piece of heavy equipment hit the lines and brought them down.

Cal Fire and the electric company responded and a temporary detour was set up to divert traffic past the incident.

Southbound traffic was diverted off the freeway at San Marcos Road and northbound traffic was stopped while Pacific Gas and Electric crews worked to clear the lines.

By around 11:55 a.m., traffic lanes reopened on the northbound side. Southbound lanes were expected to be reopened about 15 minutes later.
