SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - Two bridges badly damaged during the 2018 Montecito debris flows have reopened following lengthy construction projects.
Romero Canyon Creek Bridge and Toro Canyon Creek Bridge on Highway 192 are now open to two-way traffic.
The bridges join the San Ysidro Creek Bridge as the latest damaged bridge to reopen along Highway 192.
Drivers can expect protective barriers on the bridges until a permanent railing has been installed. Construction at the San Ysidro bridge includes a bicycle railing, guard rail and crash cushions.
Constructions continues on the Montecito Creek Bridge, Toro Creek Bridge (located about a mile west of the Toro Canyon Creek Bridge). Those bridges are expected to reopen by this summer. Arroyo Paredon Bridge is on schedule to reopen by late March.
Locked gates and detours will remain in place at some bridges. Drivers are still strongly advised to take Highway 101 in place of Highway 192 while bridge repairs continue.
