CHP releases identity of elderly Orcutt man killed in crash on Highway 1

Wife suffered moderate injuries

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - California Highway Patrol has released the identity of a man killed in a crash on Black Road west of Santa Maria last Friday.

83-year-old Warner Deutschman of Orcutt died from injuries he sustained when the Kia Sedona he was driving collided with a parked tractor. CHP said the Sedona drifted off the roadway at around and into the opposite shoulder on Highway 1 north of Black Road at around 6 p.m. The vehicle continued to coast before striking an unoccupied tractor that was parked in the shoulder.

Both vehicles sustained major damage. 

Both Deutschman and his wife, who was riding in the front passenger seat, were transported to the hospital for treatment. Warner Deutschman was later pronounced dead at the scene. His wife suffered moderate injuries.

 Highway 1 was closed during the investigation for about 25 minutes.
