UC SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - After collecting a win in its 2019 home opener, UC Santa Barbara baseball got a late comeback to make it two straight wins at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.
Thomas Rowan homered and had a run-scoring double as UCSB (4-2) scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning en route to a 6-4 win over Hartford on Saturday.
Rowan skied a solo home run down the left field line to tie the game at 3 leading off the 8th.
Then with the bases loaded and one out, Tevin Mitchell sent a potential double play grounder to shortstop but beat the throw to first. Armani Smith scored to give the Gauchos a 4-3 lead.
Andrew Martinez added a two-run single to make it 6-3.
The Gauchos jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Rowan’s double in the third.
Hartford took a 2-1 lead on a long two-run home run by Ashton Bardzell the following inning. UCSB’s Tommy Jew tied the game in the bottom of the 4th with a sacrifice fly.
John Thrasher singled home Nik Pagan to give Hartford the lead in the fifth before the Gauchos’ late rally.
Rodney Boone started for UCSB, throwing six innings while surrendering three runs and striking out nine. Chris Lincoln (1-0) pitched the final three innings and picked up the win.
Jake Regula (0-1) took the loss for the Hawks, giving up four runs in three innings.
The two teams play the series finale Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
