Special homecoming in SoCal for former UCSB star Shane Bieber
ANAHEIM, Calif. - Shane Bieber knew there would be plenty of fans in Anaheim to watch his first start in his hometown stadium.
But the former UCSB star had no idea how loud they would be all game long as Bieber pitched the Cleveland Indians past the Angels 6-2.
With constant chants of "Let's Go Bieber," the 24-year old Orange County native pitched seven strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out eight batters. Bieber improved to 14-7 on the season.
Bieber grew up about 20 miles away from Angel Stadium and pitched at Laguna Hills High School and then UC Santa Barbara. There were dozens of UCSB Gauchos fans in the stadium, wildly cheering Bieber throughout the game.
The special homecoming reception was just another terrific moment in a breakout season for Bieber who was also the MLB All-Star Game MVP in July.
