Mustangs and Gauchos shine at Big West Track & Field Championships

UCSB hosts Big West Track and Field Championships

UC SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - After unveiling a brand new track in February, UC Santa Barbara hosted the Big West Track & Field Championships for the first time since 1983.

UCSB finished second in the women's team rankings behind senior Hope Bender, who won the Big West Women's Athlete of the Meet. Bender won the women's 400-meter hurdles and set a new Big West meet record in the process. She also won women's long jump and finished second in women's 100-meter hurdles.

On Friday, Gauchos Katie Camarena and Chloe Cox finished first and second in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase while UCSB's Nick Randazzo won the men's 10,000-meter run.

UCSB finished fifth in the men's team rankings.

Cal Poly finished fourth in the men's team rankings and third in the women's team rankings. Miranda Daschian won the women's 10,000-meter Run Friday and added the 5,000-meter title on Saturday. 

Alex Merder won the men's 1,500-meter run Saturday, while Bobby Poynter won the men's 800-meter race. Abibat Rahman-Davis took home the women's triple jump crown.
