Deer hunters rescued from remote area in north Ventura County

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - Four deer hunters were rescued from a remote area of northern Ventura County Sunday.

Shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday, four deer hunters called 911 to report being lost and dehydrated the Rancho Nuevo Trailhead .

The hunters were located eight miles from the trailhead. The hunters were evaluated and did not want to be transported to the hospital.

They had insufficient food and water, they did not have a map, and did not know their whereabouts.

There are a few guidelines to follow to keep you and others safe:

  • Know your physical capabilities and those of your group. 
  • Bring enough food and water to stay hydrated.
  • Bring a map with you and be familiar with the area.
  • Have a plan and ensure that everyone in the group is aware of your plan.
