Patrol officers arrest man involved in assault, robbery behind Ventura business

VENTURA, Calif. - Ventura police officers arrested a man involved in an altercation behind a business in Ventura early Friday morning. 

The Ventura Police Department received a call regarding a disturbance on the 2900 block of Telegraph Road in Ventura. 

Officers responded to the call and met with the victim. Through the investigation, they determined a man was sleeping behind a business at the 2900 block of Telegraph Road when an employee contacted him and asked him to leave. 

The man responded by punching the victim in the face and taking the victim's backpack. He then pulled out a pocket knife at the victim and demanded money from the victim. 

The victim backed away and yelled for someone to call the police. 

A nearby citizen heard the victim and called 911. 

The suspect dropped the victim's backpack and fled the area. 

Additional responding officers searched the surrounding area and located the suspect on the 2600 block of Thompson Boulevard. 

The suspect was identified as Jarrett Bruck, 32, a transient in the Ventura area. 

Bruck was booked at the Ventura County Jail for attempted robbery, threats, brandishing and battery. 

A review from the court system shows that as of 2017, Bruck was convicted twice for trespassing, once for vandalism, once for theft, once for threatening someone, once for battery and once for being under the influence of a controlled substance.
