Oxnard Police investigate fatal collision

Collision may have been caused by street racing

OXNARD, Calif. - The Oxnard Police are investigating a fatal car accident that happened Saturday afternoon that may have been caused by street racing between the driver and a motorcyclist.

Police and a medical crew responded to a traffic collision on Auto Center Drive and Ogden Center around 5:00 p.m. Saturday.

When crews arrived, they located a 2007 Honda Civic with major damage. Officers determined that the vehicle had left the roadway and side-swiped a large palm tree. The vehicle driver, a 31-year old Oxnard resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The initial investigation determined that the Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on Auto Center Dr. at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and struck the palm tree.

Officers received information that the driver of the Honda Civic might have been racing a motorcyclist before the collision. A motorcyclist was interviewed by officers at the scene but was later released pending further investigation.

Police say it is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.

The identity of the driver is being withheld until next of kin have been notified.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or may have information should contact Officer Justin Songer at 805-385-7750 or by email
