Inmate dies after being attacked in jail

VENTURA, Calif. - An inmate at a detention facility in Ventura dies after being attacked, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

On September 11, 2018, Jeffrey Kibler, a 53-year-old inmate was taken from the PTDF to the Ventura County Medical Center where he would die hours after his arrival.

A preliminary investigation by the Sheriff's Department's Major Crimes Unit and the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office findings determined Kibler died from injuries he received after being assaulted in the jail.

Detectives are treating this case as an active homicide investigation.
