Fallen Officers organization hosts football game honoring local fallen Sheriff's sergeant

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - The Fallen Officers will host a coed flag football game on October 6 to benefit the family of a fallen Ventura County Sheriff's sergeant. 

The first annual coed flag football tournament will honor fallen Sgt. Ron Helus and will be called, "The Sgt. Ron Helus Blue Bowl." 

The game will take place at Newbury Park High School in Thousand Oaks from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Their will also be a short memorial service to honor Helus followed by a presentation to his family. 

Sgt. Helus was shot and killed after responding to an active shooter at the Borderline Bar & Grill on November 7, 2018. 

Helus who was a 29-year veteran, responded to reports of gunfire at the bar and grill. He entered the premises and exchanged gunfire with the suspect. 

Anyone can register for the flag football game. Teams may have up to 12 people on them. There will be 7 people from each team playing at a time. 

It will cost each team $600 to register and each member will receive a Blue Bowl t-shirt, lunch and a soft drink. 

Concessions will be sold and anyone is allowed to stop by and watch the event for free. 

Teams are allowed to register up until October 4. The winning team will win the Ron Helus Trophy and will be invited to attend the National Gala Mission 2244 that will be held in Naples, Florida on March 13, 2020.
