SOMIS, Calif. - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC) hosted its 46th annual Golf Classic on April 29 at The Saticoy Club in Somis, CA.
With the help of sponsorships, donations, auctions and more, it raised over $200,000.
BBSVC is a youth mentoring organization that facilitates more than 1,500 one-to-one relationships each year.
Youth from the program spoke at the event about how the organization impacts their lives. One said, “I was walking down a wrong path and then I discovered Big Brothers Big Sisters and it changed everything. I’m better equipped at making quality friends, and I know I have a support system that cares for me when things get rough. I’ve been shown some new things like a college campus and a recording studio. I don’t know where I would be without this program."
LA Kings Team Ambassador and Hockey Hall of Famer Bob Miller hosted the BBSVC Golf Classic and delivered the keynote speech. He said, "I am proud to be a resident of Ventura County, especially after hearing from the young people here tonight. Knowing that there’s an organization that is helping improve school performance, self- esteem and career paths because of a caring adult is really something else.”
Funds raised will support growth and the professional support of BBSVC’s mentoring and school site programs throughout the county.
