SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Custody Deputy is recovering tonight after being punched in the face while transporting an inmate, according to the Sheriff's Office.
It happened on March 5, 2018, at around 7:30 in the evening. A deputy was moving an inmate, 28-year-old Thunderhawk Gutierrez of Santa Maria when he reportedly attacked him. The deputy along with another deputy were able to gain control of the inmate.
Gutierrez was arrested and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail earlier on March 2, 2018, by Santa Maria Police for a domestic violence incident. He now faces additional charges for Battery on a Peace Officer, Assault likely to cause great bodily injury and Obstructing/Resisting an executive officer.
He is being held on $30,000 bail.
