SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The City of Santa Maria announced the hiring of a new city attorney on Monday.
Thomas T. Watson will take over the duties of city attorney following the retirement of Gilbert Trujillo.
Santa Maria City Council intends to approve of Watson's contract at its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 7.
Watson is a graduate of Santa Clara University and CSU Fresno. He has 30 years of experience in civil law and 20 years in municipal law. Throughout his career he's represented eight cities, including Tahoe and Woodlake.
“Thomas comes to us highly recommended by his co-workers and his peers in the legal profession,” Mayor Alice Patino said in a press release. “I have confidence in his abilities to manage and lead the City Attorney’s Office for years to come. I look forward to him effectively managing the legal needs of our City.”
