Orcutt Union School District settles lawsuit

Lawsuit alleges teacher hit, cursed at student

ORCUTT, Calif. - The Orcutt Union School District settled a lawsuit after a family claimed an Orcutt Academy teacher hit a student.

The family says teacher Ty Fredricks punched the student in the stomach, called him an idiot, and cursed at him in August 2017.

The district, Fredricks, Principal Rhett Carter, and Assistant Superintendent Susan Salucci were named in the lawsuit.

The two sides agreed to a $75,000 settlement last month.

We reached out to Superintendent Deborah Blow for a comment and received the following statement.

As they are confidential, I cannot comment on personnel matters or litigation. I can say that our district takes any issues dealing with student safety seriously, and follows district policy and the law.

Fredricks is still listed as a teacher on the Orcutt Academy website.
