Cases of broccoli block section of Highway 246 just outside Lompoc

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - CHP officers responded to reports of a broccoli spill on Highway 246 early Wednesday evening.

According to the CHP incident page, 20 boxes of broccoli spilled just before 5 p.m. along Highway 246 at Purisima Road, just outside of Lompoc.

The cases of produce and a produce truck were blocking lanes, according to people driving in the area.

Highway 246 is the main detour for drivers trying to get around a Highway 1 construction project in the Lompoc area.

The highway was closed between Jalama Road and Santa Rosa Road from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday for construction work.
