SANTA MARIA, Calif. - A 70-year-old man was airlifted from Guadalupe beach Thursday morning after he fell off a rock and injured his leg.
Local agencies responded to a 911 call from the man around 8:54 a.m. The man that fell off a rock was fishing at Point Sal, South of the Guadalupe Dunes area.
He had his cellphone on him and was able to call 911.
Santa Barbara Search and Rescue, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department, Santa Barbara County Fire Department and Guadalupe Fire Department responded to the call.
Engines and an ambulance arrived to the scene.
The agencies found it difficult to locate the man due to heavy fog and communication problems.
Upon arrival of the first engine, they found that the man had to be rescued by an alternate transportation vehicle due to the sand and the engine's inability to get to the location.
The fog cleared and the Santa Barbara County Air Support helicopter rescued the man.
The 70-year-old man was transported to a hospital in Santa Maria with an ankle injury.
