SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Over 3,000 people came together at De La Guerra Plaza in Santa Barbara for the 2019 Women's March on Saturday, Jan. 19, according to women's march leaders.
According to Women's March Santa Barbara, this year's theme was called, "Truth To Power."
The organization says that speakers brought attention to the plight of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls, as well as to the challenges of inadequate access to health care.
Another prominent concern addressed by speakers was the hope of living without the fear of sexual violence, said women's march representatives.
Participants were also asked to take action by taking included postcards to Santa Barbara County supervisors, opposing new oil leases in north county, according to the organization.
The Santa Barbara Women's March also brought attention to Title IX, asking participants to also take postcards to county supervisors to formally comment on federal regulations regarding sexual abuse investigation, said the women's march leaders.
