SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara MTD is remodeling the Downtown Santa Barbara Transit Center and will have temporary facilities in place in the meantime.
The project is expected to last until around March 2020, according to a news release.
The transition to temporary facilities in the adjacent parking lot and closure of the Transit Center is expected to take place Sept. 7-8.
Buses will begin loading and unloading at new zone locations and customer service functions will be handled out of temporary ticket vending machines in the Santa Barbara City parking lot 3 along Chapala Street.
Bus service will remain in full effect during the project but temporary loading zones will be used along Chapala and Figueroa Streets.
The project consists of a complete renovation of the Transit Center building interior, much of the building exterior, exterior loading platform, curbs, driveway, lighting and landscaping.
