SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A men's chorus comprised of gay men and their allies will perform at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Barbara this week.
Fretelli, A Men's Chorus will present its spring concert, "Why We Sing!", on Friday at the downtown Methodist church.
According to a press release from the group, the concert will be "centered around brotherhood, friendship, and belonging."
"Members of the group, gay and straight, span five generations and include parents, grandparents, professionals and students," the press release stated.
First United Church in Santa Barbara made headlines last month after the church installed rainbow banners at the front entrance with the words "God's Doors Are Open To All." It came as an act of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community after United Methodist Church leaders decided to tighten their existing ban against ordaining gay clergy and performing same-sex marriages during a February meeting of delegates.
The choir says they are proud to call the church its home for rehearsals and concerts. It has performed at the church multiple times.
Tickets for Friday's concert can be purchased online, and will be available at the door starting at 6:45 p.m. Discounted tickets for seniors and students are also available.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m
