SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - An escaped domestic cockatiel was found at the Santa Barbara County Jail earlier this week.
The flyaway pet was found near the rear of the jail inside a fenced off area.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office officials say the bird is likely an escaped pet from a nearby home that somehow ended up at the jail.
"The bird was hungry and obviously out of place," the sheriff's office said in a press release.
Jail staff gave the "jail bird" food and shelter and are fostering the cockatiel until it can be reunited with its owner.
Anyone with information about the bird or its owner is urged to email the sheriff's office.
