FBI agents converge on Santa Barbara Harbor to investigate deadly Conception dive boat fire

FBI agents converge on Santa Barbara Harbor following deadly Conception dive boat disaster

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - One day after the deadly Conception dive boat fire by Santa Cruz Island, the FBI paid a visit to the Santa Barbara Harbor.

FBI agents boarded the Vision, a boat similar to Conception that is also owned by Truth Aquatics.

Sailors docked for the night said they were at sea when they heard the disturbing Mayday call.

Kathie and John Hamilton were on a 22-hour sail.

"So we were out there and of course you listen to coast guard all the time," said Kathie Hamilton.

Like many people, the Hamilton's are anxious for answers after hearing the conversations about the crew jumping off the burning boat on Labor Day with 34 people still on board.

John Hamilton said, "It was really upsetting because we are divers, too, and we could have been on that boat, and we count on the Coast Guard, the captain, and the crew to keep you safe"

At dusk people started lighting candles at the makeshift memorial by the Sea Landing where the divers boarded the Conception during the holiday weekend.

Siobhan Major helped light candles and said, "With each one we honored the passing of a life."

"I am overwhelmed," Chrystal Carlson of Santa Barbara said. "This community is feeling the loss"

Photos, poems and a dive boat symbol shaped like a heart leave as lasting impression.
