SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Heavy rain is forecasted next week in Santa Barbara and neighboring communities that sit just below the footprint of the Thomas Fire.
As vegetation and earth is charred from fires, debris and mudslides become a real risk for homes and businesses.
The city of Santa Barbara is offering sandbags for pickup at 401 East Yanonali Street in the city annex yard during the following hours:
- Saturday, Jan 6: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
- Monday, Jan 8: 8:00 am - 3:30 pm
- Tuesday, Jan 9: 8:00 am - 3:30 pm
- Wednesday, Jan 10: 8:00 am - 3:30 pm
Depending upon the volume of sandbags requested, or if a Flood Warning is issued as a result of next week's predicted rains, the city may extend hours or open on Sunday.
Public Works staff will open the sandbag station and make sandbags available to residents free of charge.
Residents should bring their own gloves and shovels and be prepared to fill the bags.
