Santa Barbara, Calif. - The Santa Barbara International Film Festival rolled out the red carpet for a four-legged-friend who happens to be the mayor of a California town.
The 5-year-old Golden Retriever is the Mayor of Idyllwild, California, and the subject of a new documentary titled 'The Mayor.'
The film premiered at the festival on Friday and had a final showing on Saturday at the Metro 4.
Producer and director Taylor Horky said he filmed the documentary last summer..
Mayor Max's registered name is Maximus Mighty-Dog Mueller II. Max became mayor on the day he was born, May 6, 2013.
Max is actually the second Mayor Max of Idyllwild. The first Max passed away in April of 2013 after serving a one-year term.
And there are other dogs in the Idyllwild government.
The Idyllwild Mayor's Office consists of three Golden Retrievers, Mayor Max, Deputy Mayor Mitzi, and Deputy Mayor Mickey, as well as Chief of Staff Phyllis Mueller and Glenn Warren.
According to Phyliss Mueller, the goal of Mayor Max's office is to make the world a better place by conveying unconditional love and doing as many good deeds for others as possible.
Mayor Max currently has nearly 24,000 followers on instagram.
