CHP identifies Josh Turner crew member killed in tour bus crash
Singer cancels remaining September tour stops
SHANDON, Calif. - The CHP has identified the man who was killed when a tour bus crashed along Highway 46 East in Shandon late Wednesday night.
The bus had left from Vina Robles Amphitheatre after a Josh Turner concert. The people on board were part of the country music star's road crew. Josh Turner was not on the bus.
The crash was first reported around 11:45 p.m.
CHP investigators say David Turner died when the bus went off the highway, drove through a dirt shoulder and barbed wire fence, and eventually fell off a 50 foot cliff. The victim was not related to singer Josh Turner.
Investigators say the bus hit the bottom of a dry riverbed and two people were thrown from the vehicle. David Turner was killed. Seven other people on the bus suffered moderate to severe injuries and were transported to different hospitals, including Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton, Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, and Fresno Regional Hospital.
Both lanes of Highway 46 in the area were closed temporarily while emergency crews responded.
It is unclear where the tour bus was headed. Josh Turner was scheduled to perform in Yakima, Washington Friday. The ABC affiliate in Nashville reports the musician, who is known for hits like 'Time is Love,' 'Why Don't We Just Dance' and 'Your Man,' has canceled all of his tour stops through September, but he plans to reschedule them.
The investigation is ongoing.
The CHP says more information will be released as it becomes available.
