Two people injured in Cholame Y crash

CHOLAME, Calif. - Firefighters responded to a head-on crash at the Cholame Y near Shandon. CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo reported major damage to two cars with moderate injuries to the drivers.

California Highway Patrol reported the cars to be unmovable and blocking the eastbound lanes.

The small white sedan was trying to pass the big rig when the crash happened.

The driver of the sedan was identified as Joey McGraw Jr., 29, of San Bernardino.

At approximately 7:28 p.m., McGraw driving his 1999 Acura TL was traveling westbound on Highway 46 of Antelope Road attempting to pass a truck tractor and trailer combination.

McGraw attempted to make a pass, but he didn't realize that he did not have sufficient clearance to pass without colliding into a westbound vehicle.

He turned back into the westbound lane but due to his unsafe speed at the time, he lost control of the vehicle and swerved out into the eastbound lane.

McGraw collided into a 2015 Toyota Sienna causing the Toyota to go over the southside of the highway.

McGraw's sedan blocked the eastbound lane of traffic.

The truck tractor and trailer combination was not affected by this accident.

The driver of the Toyota was identified as Michael Klassen, 67, of Pebble Beach.

Both drivers sustained possible fractures and were both transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.

Alcohol and drugs did not play a factor in the collision.
