ISLA VISTA, Calif. - One Santa Barbara City College student may have partied too hard on Friday before falling from a balcony over the cliffs in Isla Vista.
Just before midnight on Friday, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Dispatch Center received a report of a cliff fall in the 6700 block of Del Playa Drive in Isla Vista. Multiple calls reported that a female college student fell from a balcony and landed in the water.
One witness said the young woman was sitting on the balcony when she fell backward over the cliff.
Santa Barbara County Firefighters dispatched a swift water rescue team to get the 20-year old Santa Barbara City College student out from the water. Bystanders pulled the woman out of the water and placed her on a bed of kelp before emergency personnel arrived.
The extent of her injuries are unknown at this time, but the Sheriff's Office believes alcohol may have been a factor.
The Sheriff's Office says there has been many fatalities and life-changing injuries that have been the result from people falling from the cliffs in Isla Vista and that visitors and students should use caution when in those areas.
