Active shooter training to be held at Paso Robles school

Training was planned before recent shootings

PASO ROBLES, Calif. - The Paso Robles Fire Department and Emergency Services will host active shooter training at a local school next week.

Training will be held Bauer Speck Elementary School at 401 7th Street on Wednesday, Aug. 14. Drills are set to begin at 9 a.m.

The school is considered a great place to hold the active shooter training as the building will be empty as the school district plans to tear down and replace it.

Both police and fire departments will be on hand for the training. They will work in a coordinated effort to secure the scene, treat and transport simulated victims to the hospital.

According to the Paso Robles Fire Department, the training was being planned prior to recent mass shootings, including the fatal shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival, two hours north of Paso Robles.

Residents in San Luis Obispo County are encouraged to sign up for the Reverse 911 system to receive emergency notifications.
