SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - Surfers say "day one" at the Rincon Classic took place for the first time in cove, giving fans plenty of space place to watch.
The event, open to surfers from Carpinteria, Santa Barbara and Ventura, was pushed back due to stormy winter weather.
Surfers said it was worth the wait after enjoying great waves.
The preliminary rounds at the Rincon Classic included competitions for youngsters called gremlins, and mature surfers called legends.
The top three surfers chosen by judges advanced to the next round.
