Professor who created addiction treatment certification program mourned in Ventura

VENTURA, Calif. - Family, friends and students mourned the passing of Bill Shilley, 90, of Ventura.

Shilley wrote courses and created the certification program for addictive disorder counselors at Oxnard College.

The former priest left his mark as a professor and mentor.

During his service at the Fred Mayr funeral home in Ventura on Friday evening his ties were on display.

Friends said they were allowed to choose one to take home and wear someday.

Shilley died at his home of natural causes on Apri 5.
