GOLETA, Calif. - A small fire broke out Monday morning in the hills above Goleta.
Santa Barbara County Fire says a 30-by-40 foot mulch pile ignited around 5:40 a.m. near Las Varas Canyon Road. The fire is reportedly isolated to the area. Some firefighting resources have already been suspended.
Winds in the area are calm. But just over the hill into Gaviota winds are moderate-to-strong, according to the First Alert Weather Center. Blowing with sustained winds of 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 45 miles per hour in Gaviota.
Fire officials say in these cases, crew will put out the fire by spreading out the mulch. Officials say there is a lot of work to do but the fire poses no threat of a larger fire.
Firefighting crews that responded to the mulch fire had been pre-positioned due to strong weekend winds.
