Mountain lion killed, after crossing 405 freeway in the Sepulveda pass

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - A car struck and killed a California mountain lion on the 405 freeway and the Sepulveda pass early Saturday morning.

The National Park Service identified the 4-year-old lion as P-61. The GPS collar shows the animal was hit between Bel Air Crest Road and the Sepulveda Blvd underpass.

The same crossed the freeway there a couple months ago.

Male lions were also hit by cars in the same area in 2011 and 2009.

An effort is underway to build a wildlife crossing in the Santa Monica mountains.
