SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - It's not a place you usually see a voter registration crew but a team has been set up at the Santa Barbara Bowl for some shows this year.

The group is with Head Count, a non-partisan organization working to increase voter registration nationwide.

The team in Santa Barbara says it has seen a strong connection between concert fans and their interest in engaging with both local and national issues.

Daniel Elkin with Head Count was carrying a clipboard for registration Tuesday and the bowl.

"We are here to promote democracy with the power of music. We have partnership with the Santa Barbara Bowl, but it is the bands that put us on the criteria for what they want."

The Head Count volunteers are asking fans if they are registered or if they have moved and need to re-register.

There are no quotas.

"Not enough people are active in our democracy, so that is why we are here; to get first time voters, to get people to stay engaged, because we really believe we have a voice," said Elkin.

The group sets up only at the request of a performer.

After their work which takes place before the shows,  the registration team gets to see the concert. with complimentary tickets.
