Guadalupe City Council accepts city staffs recommendation to put sales tax measure on ballot

The Guadalupe City Council discussed the possibility of putting a one percent sales tax on the ballot during Tuesday's city council meeting.

Council members accepted city staff's recommendation to put a one percent sales tax on the ballot.
This comes in light of the city in need of strengthening its financial status.

Currently, the city has a general fund deficit of over $35,000.

This is much lower than the what the city's deficit was before the 2014 three tax measures which was at $700,000.

Mayor Ariston Julian of Guadalupe said a one percent tax increase could balance the general fund and support city staffing.

The current quarter-cent tax provides $145,000 to the general fund each year.

The proposed measure would triple that to about $450,000.
