GOLETA, Calif. - Children ran through the ribbon cutting as Goleta city leaders opened a new recreation area.
The area includes adult exercise equipment, a multi-purpose athletic field and picnic tables.
Kids said they remembered when it was full of gopher holes and long grass.
They played soccer and other games on opening day.
Grant money helped pay for the project.
Goleta Parks and Recreation Manager JoAnne Plummer said they are still working on a name.
She said the city is also preparing to go to bid on improvements at three other locations that could be complete in February or March.
