SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - A single car crash with injuries on Highway 154 sparked a  small fire Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened at around 1:20 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 154 and San Marcos/Painted Cave Road.   This is about four miles up from Santa Barbara and Goleta.

A gray Ford Focus was involved in a guard rail collision on Highway 154 according to witnesses. The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a full vegetation fire response was called in but equipment was scaled back when the fire was controlled at the scene. It is not uncommon for a full response to be ordered whenever a fire breaks out during high fire activity weather.

People stopping to help tried to put out the fire with water bottles, according to the CHP.

Two people were injured in the crash. They were transferred to Cottage Hospital by an AMR ambulance.

In addition to the Highway Patrol, crews were on scene from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, and Los Padres National Forest.

During the rescue and response, one lane of traffic was closed causing delays for motorists.
