Fire breaks out near Highway 1, 101 interchange

Northbound traffic down to one lane

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - A fire broke out near the Highway 101 and Highway 1 interchange at Las Cruces Monday evening.

The fire sparked just before 5 p.m., north of Gaviota, it grew to 3.4 aces.

A larger fire burning near Buellton, drew the response of multiple fire agencies and aircraft.

The fire burned in an area of light brush and was moving up a hillside.

Northbound Highway 1 was shut down according to the California Highway Patrol

Highway 1 was being used as the detour option for northbound travelers who were unable to take Highway 101 due to the McMurray Fire burning in Buellton. 

Highway 246 at Buellton was then made the new alternate route for vehicles traveling northbound.

A single lane of Highway 1 was later reopened around 6:30 p.m. A single lane of Highway 101 was reopened around the same time.
