Deputies say they arrested an armed man in the evacuation zone

MONTECITO, Calif. - Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Officials make a weapons arrest in the mandatory evacuation zone of Montecito.

It happened early Saturday morning.  Deputies say they were assigned to a roving patrol near the evacuation zone when they noticed a car parked on the side of the road near Parma Park.

Inside of the vehicle was Robert Thomas, of Colorado and a strong odor of marijuana, according to deputies.  Thomas apparently admitted to transporting marijuana to Arizona from a marijuana growing operation in Oregon.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies said they found over a half-pound of marijuana, a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun, and two high-capacity magazines.

Thomas was arrested for possession of a loaded and concealed firearm.

He was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail with bail set at $35,000.

More charges for possessing high-capacity magazines are a possibility, that will be determined by the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office.
