SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office arrested a Ventura man after he led officers on a chase from Ventura through parts of Santa Barbara County in a pickup pulling a trailer.
Santa Barbara County deputies picked up the pursuit Wednesday night on Highway 101 at the Ventura County line as Ventura police officers discontinued the pursuit.
At around 8:45 p.m., the pickup truck was seen driving erratically, switching lanes and driving towards other cars on the freeway.
The truck was driven by Christoper Franchi, 52, of Ventura. Franchi was being pursued by officers in connection to a domestic disturbance report in Ventura.
Sheriff's deputies pursued the vehicle and tried to conduct a traffic stop near Summerland but Franchi refused to stop.
The pursuit continued through Summerland, Montecito, Santa Barbara and Goleta. California Highway Patrol assisted with the pursuit and deployed a spike strip on Highway 101 near Winchester Canyon Road.
Franchi drove over the spike strip and continued driving until his two front tires were completely shredded. He eventually stopped on the northbound side Highway 101 near Dos Pueblos Canyon Road.
Franchi refused to exit the vehicle and made statements about being armed, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office said. He eventually exited the vehicle but continued to refuse to cooperate. Sheriff's dogs assisted and he was taken into custody.
He was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail and could face possible charges for making criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon, recklessly evading an officer, resisting arrest, and driving while having a suspended license for driving under the influence. His bail is set at $75,000.
