Store employee wrestles gun from robbery suspect in Santa Maria

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - A man was arrested Saturday after police say he attempted to rob a store before being disarmed by customers and a store employee.

The attempted robbery happened at about 3 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Broadway.

According to witnesses at the scene, a store employee had approached Daniel Diaz, 32, because he was acting suspiciously. Diaz then pulled out a gun.

The employee tried to wrestle the gun away from Diaz as other employees and customers jumped in to help.

Employees and customers were able to disarm and restrain him until police arrived, according to police.

Diaz was arrested and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail where faces possible charges for robbery.
