SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A pedestrian has died after being struck by several cars in Oxnard Wednesday night, according to police.

The 37-year-old woman was walking in the northbound lanes of Ventura Road when she was struck around 11:30 p.m near Juniper Street. Oxnard traffic investigators say a dark colored SUV was the first vehicle to hit the victim before fleeing the scene. According to witnesses, other vehicles may have also hit the woman, all of which fled the scene.

The woman died in the roadway.

Authorities had blocked off North Ventura Road from West Hemlock Street to East Bay Boulevard for several hours investigating the multiple hit-and-run accident.

It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision and the investigation is ongoing.
