VENTURA, Calif. - An Ojai man who was arrested on suspicion of stabbing two women to death on Saturday appeared in court Tuesday to be formally charged for their murders.
Shawn Michael Shirck, 25, of Ojai was charged with two counts of murder, with special allegations that he used a knife to kill the two women.
The two victims were identified as Margaret Dahl, 59, of Oak View and Phyllis Porter, 82, of Georgia.
The two women were found stabbed to death inside a home on the 100 block of Valley Ridge Road in Oak View Saturday before noon. Shirck was arrested about six hours later on the 600 block of N. Ventura Avenue.
Shirck's relationship to the two women, who are believed to be mother and daughter, is unclear at this time.
Shirck is being held at the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $1,080,000. He is set to appear in court again on Sept. 18.
