Meiners Oaks man accused of killing roommate, discarding body

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - A man from Meiners Oaks was arrested Sunday on suspicion of killing his roommate and discarding his body.

On Sunday, Ventura County Sheriff's Office received information that Cameron Scott Lykins, 23, of Meiners Oaks may have killed his roommate, Houston Auer.

Deputies responded to a residence on the 1100 block of Meyer Road -- in the Ojai Valley -- where they discovered a bloody scene that appeared to be the site of a homicide. No victim was found and neither Lykins or Auer were at the home. Investigators believe Lykins killed Auer during a disturbance earlier that morning and removed his body from the scene.

A around 1 p.m., Inyo County Sheriff's Office and California Highway Patrol located Lykins in Lone Pine. His vehicle was also found and evidence indicates that Lykins used the vehicle to transport Auer's body.

Ventura County Sheriff's Office arrested Lykins and he was transported back to Ventura County and booked into jail on a $2 million bail. He is set to appear in court on Tuesday and could be charged with murder.

Sheriff's officials say it appears that Auer has died but Lykins has not cooperated in locating his body. His silver Nissan Frontier is pictured below. The license plate reads 39077S1.

Anyone who may have information about the crime or anyone who may have seen Lykins and his vehicle should contact Ventura County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Carlos Macias at 805-384-4761.
