Man who fired at law enforcement in Goleta-area standoff died of 'multiple gunshot wounds'

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has released the cause of death of 32-year-old Francisco Anthony Alcaraz Jr., who they say fired on law enforcement attempting to serve an arrest warrant.

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, an autopsy revealed Alcaraz was killed by "multiple gunshot wounds." Additional information will be released once a final review of the autopsy is completed.

Authorities say Alcaraz fired at law enforcement who were serving a high-rish arrest warrant at the Positano Apartment complex near Goleta on Tuesday. The shooting led to an hours-long standoff at the apartment and a shutdown of Highway 101 and a lockdown at nearby San Marcos High School.

A forensic team processed the scene and is processing the evidence. Detectives with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office are investigating the shooting.
