Man arrested in Santa Maria after threatening to kill coworker

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - A Santa Maria man was arrested Thursday after police say he threatened to kill a coworker. 

Santa Maria police were contacted Thursday morning and were told that the man was driving to kill his coworker. The reporting party said the man had mentioned he planned to make police shoot and kill him. 

Police intercepted the man while he was driving near the McCoy and Broadway shopping center. Police say he was considered high risk, but he gave up quickly. Surrounding businesses were told to shelter in place during the incident. 

His car was searched and police found no weapons on his person or in the car.

He was arrested and faces possible charges for making criminal threats.
