Citizens honored for fiery crash rescue efforts in Santa Maria

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol in Santa Maria honored three citizens Monday for their heroic efforts in trying to save a victim of a fiery crash in Santa Maria in May 2018.

Santa Maria CHP Lieutenant Mike Brown honored Kelly Porter, Michael Dietz, and Douglas Noce for springing into action when they saw a pickup truck crash and caught on fire near the Main Street off-ramp off Highway 101 in Santa Maria.

CHP says the fire was insurmountable and the driver could not be rescued.

The CHP and the Santa Maria Police Department say they honored these three men for putting themselves in harm's way by putting the community and others above themselves.
