Restaurant Week now underway in the Santa Maria Valley

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Now is a great time to visit restaurants and wineries in the Santa Maria Valley.

The annual Santa Maria Valley Restaurant Week is underway and will run through Sunday, Jan. 27.

‭“‬The Santa Maria Valley is starting‭ ‬2019‭ ‬with‭ ‬#SantaMariaStyle,‭ ‬chock-full of participation from local and loved restaurants,‭ ‬wineries and breweries.‭ ‬Each participating outlet will be offering a special for‭ ‬$20.19,‭ ‬everything from wine pairings to tastings and special menu items,‭” Glenn Morris, ‬president and CEO of the Santa Maria Chamber of Commerce‭ & ‬Visitors Bureau, said in a press release.

The 12-day event is put on by the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce and features a record number of participating businesses, including Maya Mexican Restaurant in Santa Maria.

“I think it’s a great idea what the Chamber has done," said owner Teresa Paredes. "By getting the restaurants involved and getting their name out there, to let others know about their establishment and give (customers) a chance and opportunity to go and visit them, which I think is very nice."

Paredes said her restaurant participated last year and saw great results.

She added the promotion is especially helpful since it comes during what is typically the slowest month of the year.

“It is,” said Paredes. “It really is, so this has been a really good way to kick off the new year and it’s been going pretty well for us here.”

Paredes also believes the promotion is a wonderful way for people to help support locally-owned businesses.

“It really does give us a chance to be able to make a name for ourselves, especially with all these new chain restaurants that are being established and coming out here at Enos Ranch, and some new ones that are going to be coming out soon, so it really does help get our name out there and get the locals to come and visit us and give us a chance,” said Paredes.

Maya Mexican Restaurant is offering customers two combination dinners for $20.19.

It’s a savings of about $10 off the regular menu price.

“I think it’s really cool how (the Chamber) worded it $20.19 for 2019,” said Paredes. “I thought that was very clever and very catchy.”

In addition to restaurant savings, the event is also holding a craft cocktail contest for the first time ever.

‭“‬Santa Maria Valley Restaurant Week is an incredible opportunity to take advantage of some of the most authentic culinary experiences in our destination including wine pairings and desserts.‭ ‬This year we’ve expanded our program to include a craft cocktail contest,‭ ‬the first of its kind for our destination,”‭ ‬director of the Santa Maria Valley Visitor Bureau Jennifer Harrison said in a press release.‭ “‬January is also a great time to get hotel deals and experience the diversity of what our destination offers,‭ ‬from wine country to outdoor adventures and live theatre.‭”

Winning cocktails will be announced on Jan. 27.
