SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Set back by the Montecito mudflow, Jeannine's bakery and restaurant on Coast Village Road has offered some free morning treats while it fully reopens the site.

The baked goods are coming from the downtown restaurant.

Trays of scones, muffins, croissants and cookies were on the tables Friday morning for customers to sample.

Hot coffee and orange juice was also served.

There are donation jars for the staff to get tips.

Owner Alison Hardy says she hoped it helps people get some of the normal flow back in their life after the recent disaster.

"With coffee and food we are drawing people out one at a time," said Hardy.

She's been telling customers, "we are here and we miss you. Come to Jeannine's and we will feed you."

Many people coming by are "exchanging stories" and offering help to one another.   Hardy says the time at the restaurant, even with a limited menu is hopefully "a little moment where everything is ok.  I couldn't be more honored than to be part of that."
