Women's Fund of Santa Barbara marks 15th anniversary by awarding grants

Womens Fund of Santa Barbara gives grants totaling $585,000 to nine nonprofits

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Women's Fund of Santa Barbara celebrated its 15th anniversary on Wednesday by giving money away.

After researching nonprofits that help women, children and families, the Women's Fund of Santa Barbara chose nine recipients.

They kept the recipients a secret until Wednesday's reception at the Santa Barbara Hilton.

The amounts range from $50,000 to $95,000 and totaled $585,000.

Grant recipients include Alpha Resource Center, CALM, Catholic Charities of Santa Barbara, Family Services Agency, Isla Vista Youth Projects, PATH, Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics, Sarah House and Transition House.

Steering Chair Shelley Hurst said they have something else to celebrate.

Rather than being under the Santa Barbara Foundation umbrella, Women's Fund of Santa Barbara will operate as an independent nonprofit next year.

The fund has given more than $7 million in grants to more than 100 nonprofits over the years.
