ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - The 5Cities Homeless Coalition is hosting the eighth annual Empty Bowls Community Luncheon in Arroyo Grande.
The yearly event is held at the St. Patrick's Parish Hall and raises funds to help families who are homeless or facing homelessness in the area.
Each year, local restaurants donate gallons of soup to the event. Handmade bowls are donated by artists and students for the luncheon. Purchase a bowl, sample the local soups, and help those in the community.
Entrance to the event costs $25 and lunch is served between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Last year, the event raised more than $44,000 for the 5Cities Homeless Coalition.
5Cities Homeless Coalition says there have been an increase in calls for individuals and families who are on the brink of homelessness.
"Empty Bowls is our signature event. It helps bring the community together to raise money that is sorely needed to help children, teens, seniors, veterans and families who are homeless or facing homelessness," said 5Cities Homeless Coalition Executive Director Janna Nichols.
Similar "Empty Bowls" style fundraisers are held throughout the area including in Lompoc, Santa Barbara and Santa Maria.
